K6ORI: Orinda Radio Interest Group:
Amateur, CERT, Neighborhood Watch
CERT Graduate Radio Training
The Orinda Public Safety Advisory Commission and the Orinda Radio
Interest Group will present three different courses for CERT
graduates and neighborhood watch captains:
- Radio 101 for CERT Team Members - this one hour course
will discuss FRS and GMRS radios, licensing considerations,
radio and battery care, radio settings and team frequency
and tone strategies, and basic radio usage.
- Radio Networking for CERT and Neighborhood Watch teams -
this two hour course will introduce the idea of a
radio network that lets many people with radios work together
to ensure rapid and effective communications. This course
includes a drill during the session both in the room and with
students scattered around the immediate area on FRS radios.
- Integrating CERT, Neighborhood Watch, and Ham Radio - this
two hour course introduces the protocols and skills needed for
CERT, neighborhood watch, and ham radio operators to coordinate
communications among neighborhoods and with the City EOC. It
covers the Orinda Disaster Plan's communications provisions
and the core skills needed to establish effective communications
in times of emergency.
Schedules for these three classes will be established
Real Soon Now (RSN).
