About Orinda Radio

We are a loosely organized group of amateur radio operators (hams) who work to maintain our equipment and skills to serve the community in times of need. This is a relatively informal club centered around the Moraga Orinda Fire District's (MOFD's) Communications Support 245 (CS245) Emergency Response Team.

CS245 is a 1970s era ambulance that's been converted into a Type II communications support vehicle. It is maintained by MOFD, managed by the District's Communications Manager, and staffed with volunteers from the community. This subgroup of Orinda Radio operates as volunteer members of the District under Fire District Management direction.

In 2009, MOFD expanded the role of the CS245 team by training its members as Staging Area Managers. Then in 2010, the District further expanded the teams role into support Logistics and Firefighter Rehabilitation functions.

Although we often refer to ourselves still as the CS245 Team, officially the team is now the Communications and Logistics Support Team, with Emergency Communications (using vehicle CS245), Logistics and Rehabilitation (using vehicle Rehab41) as subfunctions of the team.

The City of Orinda has agreed to rely on the MOFD's Communications and Logistics Support Team as its emergency communications arm during local disaster responses calling for communications support. An Amateur Radio Club has been established to support the communications facilities in City Hall and the Orinda Community Center. Its club call sign is K6ORI, hence the Web location of this page.

Thanks

K6ORI and the MOFD Communications and Logistics Volunteer Team is grateful to its many volunteers and supporters, without which our mission could not be easily fulfilled. We would particularly like to thank the Moraga-Orinda Fire Department (Chief Randall Bradley), the Orinda Police Department (Chief Jeffrey Jennings), the Moraga Police Department (Chief Robert Priebe), the Contra Costa Repeater Association, and the San Ramon Valley Fire Department for their support.
