MOFD Communications & Logistics Volunteer Team

The Moraga Orinda Fire District (MOFD) equipped a retired ambulance to be a full-function Type II communications support vehicle (CS245). Equipped with many radios on all the frequencies in public service use around Contra Costa County. In additon to basic radios, the van has a cross-band switch that allows multiple radios to be joined together for intercommunication among responders on different frequencies. It s one of two communications support vehicles in the County.

Bob Williams (N6UTX) is the District's Communications Technician and CS245 Team Leader. It is deployed and staffed by a team of volunteers from the Lamorinda area. All members of the team have amateur radio licenses and are qualified as Radio Operators (RADO), and Staging Area Managers (STAM) in the Fire Service. Some of our team has also received Communications Technician (COMT) and Incident Dispatcher (INCD) training.

Recently, the CS245 team was trained to deploy and support the District's Rehab vehicle, adding to our opportunities to serve. We are now able to bring on folks before they get their ham licenses as they can be of help with Rehab41 deployments.

If you've got the volunteer spirit, find out how to join our team!
